Richard W. De Loughy Jr.

Hello! I am a professional photographer living near Portland, Oregon. When I am not posting to Instagram, you can find me shooting nature and wildlife.

I left my hometown in New Jersey in 2007 for what I thought would be a couple years. But here I am, more than a decade later, happily living and working on the west coast. I met my wife in 2015 who shared the love for the outdoors and I knew she was the one.

Yosemite – 2016

I spent a chunk of time living in major cities on the west coast. I moved around a bit before finally settling in Portland in 2018.

I have been photographing Mother Nature since I was 8 years old. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to hardworking parents. Earth has so much beauty to offer. When I was 8 years old, I got my first camera; a disposable Kodak.

It was after a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine, that I fell in love with photography. Every trip after that, I had a camera with me each time my parents took me and my siblings on vacation. I got my first DSLR in 2010 and haven’t stopped loving being out in nature with a camera.

I still remember how excited I got when I was going in to pick up my processed film and and couldn’t wait to look through the photos.

In 2009, I bought a Canon AE-1 and began shooting film. Processing your own images is a whole different experience from a digital camera. There is no feeling like opening the tank after that final wash, unrolling a bit of film, and seeing an image; an actual physical image that I put there by exposing and developing the film. It’s a sensation of which I never tire, and that no digital camera or computational process can emulate.

MOUNTAINS & SEA

There’s nothing quite like an adventure
in the mountains, being surrounded
by nature’s giants. The achievement
of reaching the summit, the epic
views along the way, the feeling of
weightlessness as you summit down,
the sense of awe as you are
immersed amongst the wilderness.

The mountains have the ability to
conjure up our most primal emotions
and feelings.
